Auto-fill website details when creating an auction completed

SitePoint should automatically grab the Alex rank, PageRank, pages indexed in Google, number of backlinks and other details when an auction is created rather than having the seller fill in the details.

That’s ‘Alexa’, not ‘Alex’, of course. :-)

    Improve email notifications completed

I've been getting auction updates after 3 days of an event in an auction and they just come once and for all and flood. Please update the email notifications to be prompt.

Yep, we had an email outage over the past few days. An email of apology will be going out to affected sellers shortly. Meanwhile, we have corrected the issue and implemented new monitoring systems to prevent this from happening again.

Bring back "Edit Auction" link completed

I used to be able to go in and edit auction details and extend the listing end date if my reserve has not been met. Now the link is gone and I need to pay another $20 to relist.

You are now able to extend an auction up to the maximum duration (30 days) even after bidding has begun.

Enable the "search posts" to include previous auctions completed

I would like to be able to see all the previous auctions / marketplace items a user has listed. Sometimes I have corresponded via PM with a seller, then cannot find the posting for the original auction.

Identity Verification to prevent multiple accounts completed

Verify the phone numbers of marketplace participants via an automated system to prevent people from having multiple accounts.

This is among the anti-fraud measures that are top of our list. This should help to eliminate fraudulent auctions (by requiring sellers to verify their identity) as well as fraudulent bids (by enabling sellers to insist that bidders verify their phone number before their bid is accepted).

Fix the typo on the phone verification page completed

"You should aim for a 100% trust rating in order by as successful as possible in the Marketplace."

"in order by as successful " should be "in order to be as successful "

Verify websites are legitimate when accepting to marketplace completed

I would like to see some sort of verification of ownership occurring before the person can advertise in Marketplace using a process similar to below:

    1. Seller submits classified ad to sitepoint

    2. Sitepoint gives give them some HTML that points to a banner ad that says "This site is For Sale at Sitepoint". The HTML would also point back to their classified ad.

It would also be good if the html carried some sort of verification key so that it could not be faked. Maybe name the banner the verification key. ie. f1234f.gif

    3. Once the banner is placed on the site, the seller would notify sitepoint (clicking a button) and Sitepoint verifies it is there and then approves the Classified for submission to the marketplace.

This could be either human or automated verification.

The advantages of this would be as follows:

    1. Sitepoint buyers know that the person owns the site
    2. This verfication protects Sitepoint from potential scams.
    3. The banner drives more traffic to the Sitepoint auction for the buyer
    4. The banner advertises sitepoint.

We have already implemented a ‘domain ownership verification’ feature that works almost exactly as you describe, except without the visible banner. Check it out at http://dev.sitepoint.com/2008/06/new-feature-domain-ownership-verification/, and let us know if you feel anything is missing.

    Add domain ownership verification completed

It would be nice for sellers to have a way of conclusively proving that they own a site they are selling on the Marketplace.

We believe this would be an effective anti-fraud measure that would benefit buyers.

Show Established Date in IE7 completed

The year that a site was established does not show up on the auction details page due to an IE7 JavaScript bug.

Create a Content for Sale category completed

Sellers want a category to list content (articles, reviews, etc.) available for sale.

We expect to launch this category in the next couple of days.

    Show Winning BIN price completed

When an auction is won via buy it now bid, show the dollar value rather than just the username of the winner.

Accept instant Buy It Now payment via PayPal completed

Particularly for the Turnkey category, auction sellers would like the option of requiring immediate payment via PayPal when placing a Buy It Now (BIN) bid.

In Marketplace 1.0, sellers would embed a PayPal link within the auction description, but this is no longer convenient to do in the Marketplace 2.0 system, nor does it automatically record the payment with an official bid.

We consider this an immediate priority, and are actively working on it (internal ticket #221). Please vote to let us know we’re on the right track!
